Pinoy Book Tours organized a YA Contemporary book tour and I'm glad to be one of the host! Today, I will be interviewing Catherine Doyle about her edgy, twisty, and absolutely brilliant (Kate Ormand's review on Goodreads) novel!
Vendetta (Blood for Blood #1)Published January 1st 2015 by Chicken House Ltd
When it comes to revenge, love is a dangerous complication. With a fierce rivalry raging between two warring families, falling in love is the deadliest thing Sophie could do. An epic debut set outside modern-day Chicago.
When five brothers move into the abandoned mansion in her neighbourhood, Sophie Gracewell's life changes forever. Irresistibly drawn to bad boy Nicoli, Sophie finds herself falling into a criminal underworld governed by powerful families. As the boys' dark secrets begin to come to light, Sophie is confronted with stinging truths about her own family, too. She must choose between two warring dynasties - the one she was born into, and the one she is falling in love with. When she does, blood will spill and hearts will break.
What is your typical celebration when releasing a book?
For Vendetta, I held an official book launch with special cupcakes, honey pots and other fun treats. There was a bunch of speeches and I signed books too.
Later, at home, my friends and family had a party with champagne and Vendetta-themed cake!
No matter how many books you write, I'm sure each one has its own challenges. How was this book more challenging to write than your others? How was it easier?
Vendetta was the first novel that I properly finished, but not the first one I started. I think the reason I managed to finish it so quickly (in about a month) was because the characters felt so alive to me. They were writing their own story. And I was passionate about the story from the start. I felt like I knew Sophie, and I couldn’t wait to see what happened to her. It was challenging too because I felt like I had to write it all really quickly so I pushed myself to finish it much sooner than I needed to. That meant some sleepless nights!
“Imagine if we had no secrets, no respite from the truth. What if everything was laid bare the moment we introduced ourselves?”Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what do you like to listen to?
Yes, I think music is important for setting the right mood for writing. At the moment, I’m loving Hozier, Sam Smith, Kings of Leon, and Mumford and Sons.
Lucky Sophie! Not one but five, FIVE HOT BROTHERS are involved in this gritty YA you wrote! (Okay, sign me up now please. I don't care if they are bad news or not, at all.) Are you planning or even starting a book two right now? Share more! I'm so thrilled!
Haha, yes Sophie’s lucky in that way… but a little bit unlucky in other ways, as people will see! ;) I’m working on book two at the moment, but I’ve only just finished the first draft. I’m hoping to start book three towards the end of the year. Over all, the books will have lots of boys, danger, drama, romance, big decisions and high stakes! I’m really excited for people to get to know Sophie and the boys!
